Bet with a limit, or not at all.
Most people who bet on sports lose money over time. That is the arithmetic of the sportsbook's margin, not bad luck. If you bet, treat it as money spent on entertainment, decide how much before you start, and stop when it stops being fun.
Call 1-800-GAMBLER (1-800-426-2537), the National Problem Gambling Helpline in the US. It is free, confidential and open 24 hours a day.
What Betting Buddy is, and is not
Betting Buddy is NBA statistics, a prediction model that grades every one of its picks, and lessons on how betting markets work. It is analysis and education.
We are not a sportsbook. We take no bets, hold no money for betting, and have no account at any sportsbook on your behalf. Nothing here places a wager for you, and no page, pick or chat answer is advice to bet.
Our model picked the moneyline winner in 67.2% of 2,597 games it never saw in training, against 55.1% for simply picking the home team every time. That also means it is regularly wrong, and whether following it makes money was never part of that test. The Track Record measures it from opening night 2026-27, and a single season can swing either way by chance. A model is a reason to think harder about a bet, not a reason to bet more.
You must be 21 or older
Betting Buddy is for adults aged 21 and over, or older where the legal betting age where you live is higher. Our Terms of Use say the same, and we may close any account we believe belongs to someone younger.
Sports betting is legal in some places and not in others. Whether it is legal where you are is for you to check before you bet.
Warning signs
Any one of these is worth taking seriously, in yourself or someone close to you:
- Betting more, or more often, to get the same excitement.
- Chasing losses: betting again to win back what you just lost.
- Betting money meant for rent, bills, food or savings.
- Borrowing, using credit, or selling things to bet or to cover losses.
- Hiding or lying about how much you bet or how much you have lost.
- Feeling restless, irritable or low when you try to cut back.
- Betting to escape stress, boredom or a bad mood.
- Trying to stop or cut down, and not managing it.
- Missing work, sleep or time with family because of betting.
Limits that work
- Set a budget before you start, for the week or the month, and only from money you could lose without it mattering. When it is gone, you are done until the next period.
- Never chase. A loss is the price of the entertainment you already had. The next bet does not know about the last one.
- Keep bets a small, fixed size. Raising the stake after a loss is chasing with extra steps.
- Decide how long you will spend, not just how much.
- Do not bet when you are drunk, angry, or upset about something else.
- Write down every bet and its result. Most people are surprised by the total.
- Use the sportsbook's own tools. Licensed US sportsbooks generally offer deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion, and those are enforced: the book stops taking your money. That is where a hard limit belongs, because that is where the betting happens.
Members can keep a personal budget reminder and a break reminder on their account page. Those are notes to yourself, not a lock; the enforced limits are the sportsbook's.
Where to get help
1-800-GAMBLER (1-800-426-2537) is the National Problem Gambling Helpline in the US: free, confidential, 24 hours a day. You do not need to be sure you have a problem to call, and people call about a partner, a parent or a friend too.
The National Council on Problem Gambling (ncpgambling.org) runs that helpline, and its site has more on getting help, for yourself or for someone you are worried about.
Help differs from state to state. Many states run their own helplines, treatment programmes and self-exclusion lists, and what exists where you live varies. Your state's gaming regulator, or the NCPG site, is the place to start. Outside the US, look for your own country's gambling helpline.
If you are thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, or call 911 in an emergency.
Stepping away from Betting Buddy
If this site is part of the problem, stop using it. Paid members can cancel from the account page at any time and keep access until the end of the period already paid for. To close your account entirely, email bettingbuddyhelp@gmail.com.
